2x upscaling generally looks the sharpest. 3x and 4x are usable, especially with sharpening enabled, but very heavily cropped or already low-resolution source images will show more softness at higher factors.
No. This tool uses a progressive step-scaling technique with high-quality resampling and an unsharp-style sharpening filter, entirely within your browser. It does not send your image to any AI service.
Upscaling adds new pixels by interpolating from existing ones; it can't invent detail that was never captured in the original photo. Sharpening improves perceived clarity but can't fully recover detail lost to a low starting resolution.
To keep processing fast and reliable in the browser, output is capped at 6000px on the longest side. Very large source images may need a lower scale factor to stay under that limit.

How browser-based upscaling works
Enlarging an image the naive way — stretching it in one jump — tends to produce a soft, blocky result because the browser has to guess a lot of new pixel values at once from very little source information. This tool instead scales the image up in repeated smaller steps, capped at roughly double the size each time, which keeps the browser's high-quality resampling algorithm working from denser source data at every stage. After reaching the target size, an unsharp-style sharpening pass is applied to restore perceived edge definition that softens during resampling.
This approach won't invent detail that was never captured by the original camera or scan — that's what dedicated AI super-resolution models attempt to do, at the cost of sending your photo to a remote server. What step-upscaling with sharpening does deliver is a noticeably cleaner result than a single-pass resize, entirely on-device, with your image never leaving your browser.
It's a practical option for enlarging product photos for a print listing, preparing a small logo for a banner, or bumping up the resolution of an image before further editing.
